My experience with this wonderful organization began with my retirement. I met Emily, the artistic director, at a workshop for the Neighborhoods program where she encouraged me to write about my Waterbury family's heritage. With her support, I created a demonstration on margucciai (egg decorating). To my delightm, she invited me to become a member of the Neighborhoods team and performed my story in area senior centers, libraries, and even outdoor parks. And that led to me and Emily teaching classes at OLLI in which we encouraged area seniors to create and present their family memories. I will always remember the pride that I felt sharing my immigrant grandparents' traditions with so may Waterbury residents--many of whom enthusiastically shared their memories with me because of the Neighborhoods program. Shakesperience is a Connecticut treasure!
